Berkey Light Water Filter & Purifier
The Berkey Light water purifier can be used in any setting, but it was originally designed to be a lower-cost, lightweight, portable alternative to our larger stainless steel units. Weighing only seven pounds, the Berkey Light holds 2.5 gallons of purified water and can provide enough water for groups of up to 10 to 20 people. The Berkey Light is ideally suited for outdoor and emergency use, as it requires no water pressure and no electricity and can provide pure drinking water from almost any source. More than just a water filter, the Berkey Light is classified as a water purifier. Our microfiltration system outperforms our competitors by filtering out 99.99% of viruses and bacteria — as well as other contaminants such as chlorine and lead — without the use of harsh chemicals. The Berkey Light water filter systems have features that are unique to this specific model of water purifier. Light and durable, the see-through container makes it easier to determine the amount of water in the upper container without the need to have the water-view spigot. The built-in elevated base makes it possible to place a drinking water glass under the spigot without having to place the unit on the edge of the counter. The lightweight BPA-free poly material is extremely durable, making it dent- and shatter-proof. The Berkey Light water purifier produces the same quality and quantity of water as the stainless steel models at a more economical price. All Berkey Light water filter units come with two filters and two plugs and have the capability to accept four filters. It’s the most economical of our larger units; the two Black Berkey filters that come with the unit are good for up to 6,000 gallons of purified drinking water, at only about 2 cents per gallon. If you purchase the four-filter model, you get an extra set of Black Berkey elements. If at any time you need a higher water flow rate, converting to a larger system is easy — simply remove the supplied plugs from the upper container and add the extra filters. This water filter has a storage capacity of about 2.75 gallons and when in use it stands 26.5 in height with a diameter of 9. The system stands 21 when used without the base (included). Configured with two Black Berkey™ purification elements the system can purify over 4 Gallons per hour. Configured with four Black Berkey™ purification elements the system can purify up to 8 Gallons per hour.*
The Berkey Light Water Filter is designed for use during travel, outdoor activities and during unexpected emergencies. This powerful system purifies both treated water and untreated raw water from such sources as remote lakes, streams, stagnant ponds and water supplies in foreign countries, where regulations may be substandard at best. Perfect for outdoor activities and a must in hostile environments where electricity, water pressure or treated water may not be available.
Easy Setup and Simple Installation: The Berkey Light Water Filter sets up in minutes. Simply screw in the purification elements and spigot, put the chambers and base together and you are ready to purify your water.
The shatter resistant and virtually unbreakable Berkey Light™ system is made of high impact strength, non-BPA copolyester.
The Berkey Light Water Filter does not leach foul tasting plasticizers into your water and will not retain foul tastes and odors from waterborne contaminants. As the system purifies water, it produces the delightful and relaxing sound of falling raindrops.
When used with the Berkey Light™ LED Base, these water droplets light up and glow and the resulting waves reflect soothing patterns of light onto the surrounding area. The lighting effects coupled with the melody of raindrops, combine to create a unique and relaxing atmosphere.
The revolutionary Berkey Light™ cleanable purification elements purify water by removing or reducing viruses, pathogenic bacteria, cysts and parasites entirely and by extracting harmful chemicals such as herbicides, pesticides, VOCs, organic solvents and trihalomethanes. They also reduce rust, silt, sediment and unhealthy minerals such as lead and mercury.
The base has an optional eight-lamp LED lighting system, available in practical white or beautiful cobalt blue, allowing for optimum use day or night. Incredibly, the Berkey Light™ LED lamps to have an average life of over 11 years of continuous use and are so bright the white LED’s can be spotted for more than a mile in the dark, yet they require very little energy.
The adaptable Berkey Light™ LED lighting water filter is designed for long-term use even when electrical power is not available. The LED lamps can be powered by the 110 Volt AC adapter (included with LED base) when electricity is available, or by the internal rechargeable batteries (included with LED base). To use outside the US, a Step-Down Voltage Converter may be required; please check your local voltage requirements first.
When power is not available, the Berkey Battery Adapter™ case (optional) provides an incredible two weeks of nighttime light from four small AA alkaline batteries and the Berkey MP Solar Charger™ (optional) provides for an endless source of power. This makes the Berkey Light Water Filter the ideal camping-light and emergency light.
What’s more, the detachable base can be used as a stand-alone emergency flashlight.

*NOTE: Unfortunately, Berkey Light systems are not yet available for shipment to Iowa, and shipment to California is restricted for some products. The Berkey Light system with 2 elements preinstalled (with or without LED lighting) MAY be shipped to California. The Berkey Light system that comes with 4 elements preinstalled MAY NOT be shipped to California at this time. Every Berkey Light system has four holes in the bottom of the upper chamber, to accommodate the user’s choice of two, three or four purifier elements. In the California-shippable Berkey Light systems that come with 2 elements, two of the holes come with removable rubber plugs in them. Please also note that replacement Black Berkey elements ARE available for shipment to California.

I live off-grid, put my little home on skids to avoid permitting. Thing is, you have to have all kinds of permits to have a home built, but putting it right next to my creek on skids and with no surface disturbance, allows me to be here. The thing is I cannot get a well permit, so the only water source I have is the creek which is clean. And this is where the filter excels. We first place our water into five gallon pails to allow sediment (no much) to settle. Then we fill the Berkey and it works great, very happy with the result.
